Epithalon (Epitalon)
A synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) studied for its ability to activate telomerase, extend telomeres, and regulate melatonin secretion in aging research.
Mechanism of Action
Epithalon activates telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) in somatic cells, enabling telomere elongation and extending cellular replicative lifespan. It also stimulates melatonin production by the pineal gland, restoring circadian rhythm function that declines with age. Additionally, it modulates antioxidant enzyme expression and reduces age-related changes in T-cell immune function.
