MOTS-c
A mitochondria-derived peptide encoded in the 12S rRNA gene, studied for its role in metabolic homeostasis, exercise mimetic effects, and aging.
Mechanism of Action
MOTS-c activates AMPK signaling, regulates the folate-methionine cycle, and modulates de novo purine biosynthesis. This shifts cellular metabolism toward fat oxidation and away from methionine-dependent pathways. It also translocates to the nucleus under metabolic stress to regulate nuclear gene expression — making it one of the first known mitochondrial-encoded peptides with retrograde nuclear signaling function.

Dosage Range
Research doses in animal models: 5-15 mg/kg via intraperitoneal injection. Human equivalent dosing is under investigation.
Reconstitution
Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water. For a 5 mg vial, add 1 mL BAC water for 5 mg/mL.
Storage
Store lyophilized at -20C. Reconstituted at 2-8C, use within 14 days.
Half-Life
Approximately 4-6 hours. AMPK activation and metabolic effects persist 12-24 hours.
